Samba! David Beckham lands in Rio de Janeiro ahead of this weekend's Carnival and settles into his Ipanema Beach hotel

David Beckham has touched down in the home of this year's World Cup ahead of this weekend's Carnival, although he is there for business rather than pleasure.
The 38-year-old sports ambassador is in the area for a sponsorship commitment, but might just catch a glimpse of the annual event while he is there.
David proved he's still grounded as he pushed his own trolley carrying three large black North Face holdalls on his own while carrying a large backpack on his back

Party time: David Beckham arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Carnival

The megastar looked like he was trying to keep a low profile, covering up with a flat cap and dressed all in dark colours. He was also sporting a beard.
David looked casual in a leather jacket teamed with a simple grey T-shirt, black slim-fit jeans and brown leather ankle boots.
Despite the beard and cap, David attracted quite a crowd, but he was happy to meet many of his fans as he landed at the airport and shook hands and signed autographs

Later on, the handsome personality was pictured checking out the view as he leaned out against his hotel balcony.
With Brazil hosting the World Cup this June and July, it is a spot of luck Beckham is in town just before the country's most important annual event, that is, if he gets a chance to see it.
With the footballing legend reportedly staying at the Fasano hotel on Ipanema Beach - the most stylish address in the city - he's sure to have a great time

Worth a try: Despite having a beard and a flat cap, David could not go unnoticed

The interior has been created by French interior designer Philippe Starck, with wood, glass and marble giving the whole hotel a chic finish.
The 92 rooms have either a courtyard of ocean view and Beckham will probably be staying in one of the 10 suites which boast sweeping vistas of the coastline.
For even better views of the 'Marvellous City', Beckham could head up to the rooftop infinity pool for a swim before heading onto a special area of Ipanema Beach reserved exclusively for hotel guests

Carnival is one of the most popular times to visit Rio and the party kicked off in style last weekend.
The top twelve samba schools went head-to-head in a competition that spanned two nights and involved feathers, sequins and plenty of over-the-top costumes.
The three winners will be taking to the Sambadrome once again to close the event
